Get Up!

The foal was just born forty-five minutes before I took this shot. The owner was concerned about her being able to stand and had called the Vet, who told her not to worry if the foal stood withing the first hour. Even though this woman breeds the horses, this was only the second time she had witnessed a live birth. The horses are bred to be 'bucking mares' for rodeos.

See more photos on my other blogs ... Champions Gate in particular.

Witnessing the birth of anything is an awe-inspiring experience. The foals are so ungainly right after birth yet it doesn't take them long before they're romping in the field.
Wonderful capture!

I left you a comment and clicked on something and zoom it was gone. I'll figure this out someday. Cut to the chase--nice photo. Love them horse babies. Bucking mares, huh. MB

Ah! Two ponies were born this week in my neighborhood - I have a couple of horse farms around me- a got a photo yesterday of one.
They look they can barely walk. I love the bubble above the older pony - kids helping kids - ok that would be goats. Let's go with foal helping foal!
Wonderful photo.

Janice: Amazing, when you think of it - the four day old was pretty frisky most of time! Thanks!

MB: Lucky timing on this one. I have never heard the term "bucking mares" before, have you?

Carletta: Horse farms in this area are fast disappearing, I'm glad I found this one.

George, the only thing I can think of is that they are used at rodeos or she is establishing a line of truly bucking horses (mares and geldings) for rodeos. You know, she is breeding mares hoping to find the exceptional bucking offspring the rodeos are looking for. Not a killer bucker but a strong, consistant bucker. Sorta self-explanetory or you better go back and ask the lady. Does that help any or did you already come to that conclusion? MB

I've only ever witnessed and assisted a woman give birth, and my little girl (Japanese Spitz). I wonder what it's like with horses...

Thanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and leaving your comments.
